Places to visit

For days out there are a wealth of attractions within easy reach. Historic houses include Castle Howard, Duncombe Park and Nunnington Hall. Coastal towns, such as Whitby with its Captain Cook connections (and superb fish and chips) is less than half an hour away and bustling Scarborough (a favourite with kids of all ages) is a few minutes more.

For thrill-seekers, just 15 miles away is Flamingoland Zoo and Themepark, boasting some of the biggest rides in the UK. Even closer is Dalby Forest with its “Go Ape” high wire experience, world class mountain bike trails and award winning visitor centre. Kale Pot Cottage guests enjoy free use of a Dalby Visitor Pass during their stay.

More tranquil attractions close by include Lavender Farms, Walled Gardens and Museums – Eden Camp, an ex WW2 prison camp being one of the more unusual.

Familiar places from TV shows are Thirsk – home to vet James Herriott and Goathland – the Aidensfield village in ‘Heartbeat’.
